June 10th : An update on the progress (or not!) in National Competitions. (Previous, see May 18th)
In the Senior Pairs Tony Liggins and Del face a trip to Newport Pagnell on Tuesday 17th June, 12 noon start.
Del travelled to Chalfont St Giles on the 9th June to play Mike Skerry in the Senior Singles and won in a very close match indeed.
With a 12 - 6 advantage after 11 ends, things looked promising for Del, but the home player found his form and won 10 of the next 12 ends to lead 20 - 16. Game down, with one bowl left, Del turned his opponents shot bowl away just enough to take the shot and extend the match. Needing 4 to win, he then landed a full house on the 25th end to win in the most dramatic fashion. His next game is at home against Stephen McAlister, from the mighty Gerrards Cross, on Friday 20th June at 2.30 pm.
In the Foundation Pairs, Del and Roger Lawson visited Bletchley St Martins. The format is 3 wood pairs over two 9 end sets. Losing the first set 8 - 4, Del and Roger looked likely to even the match and play a sudden death extra end, but a 4 shot lead with 2 ends to play was squandered when Del played a careless bowl on the 8th end to move the jack and go from 1 down to 3 down. The home pair took full advantage to take the last end by a single shot and draw the set at 9 shots apiece, which was enough to give them the game by 1 1/2 points to 1/2 point.
In his Champion of Champions game played at Gerrards Cross, Del was no match for Richard Reid. Richard lost the first two ends, but had taken the lead by the 4th end and never looked back, winning 21 - 6.
In the County Championship Singles, Tony Liggins is drawn to play away to Scott Widdowson at Waddesdon on Monday, 23rd June at 4 pm.
